Destiny Graves is an ambitious and driven student at Louisiana State University, majoring in architecture and minoring in architecture history. She has been a member of the Presidential Millennial Scholars Program (PMSP), the National Organization of Minority Architect Students (NOMAS), and Studio Culture - College of Art + Design, and is currently the President of NOMAS LSU. Through her eight-year association with NOMA, she has attended two national conferences and made numerous significant connections.
Miss Graves is also the founder of Element SeventyThree, a local brand that currently offers aromatherapy-infused candles. She hopes that this business will expand into multiple home product lines and become the interior design division of her future architecture firm. Sustainability, urban development, reducing the ecological footprint, community engagement, inclusion, design justice, and giving clients a good experience are her main concerns in architecture.
Growing up in Geismar, Louisiana, which is within the chemical plant corridor, also known as "Cancer Alley," Destiny has been exposed to the heavy impact design decisions can have on a community. Therefore, she intends to make these topics a priority in every project she works on. She plans to use her education, future certifications, licenses, and experience to design spaces that foster a sense of community, safety, love, unity, and attention to detail.
Destiny is confident that with God, family, and friends, all her hopes, dreams, and aspirations can become a reality in the future. She is determined to use her knowledge and experience to make a positive impact on her community and the world around her, further creating a better future for generations to come.
As I continue to learn and use the strong support system I have been blessed with, I plan to produce high-quality work, be a greater source of mentorship and inspiration, and earn my architectural license. I want to challenge myself to soak up as much information as I can to best prepare myself for the field. I plan to take courses and attend seminars to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in the field. I want to be able to use my knowledge to create innovative and creative designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. I am passionate about architecture, and I want to ensure that I am able to use my knowledge and skills to help others. My family and community are so proud of me, and I will always be sure to make them proud through work that tells a story and has an overwhelming sense of simplicity, safety, love, and unity that I have experienced my whole life. I want to use my abilities to design buildings and spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and energy efficient. I will not stop there, even more importantly than my own design legacy. I want to ensure I remain a valuable source for aspiring architects and help them reach their goals.
